“Great things are obtained at the expense of great dangers.” (Heródoto)

“Great things are obtained at the expense of great dangers.” (Heródoto)

If, contrary to what is happening in other countries, we are doing well (according to scientific norms and rules in the area of health), and in time, it is because we are “putting an end to an old tradition ”In which“ we always considered ourselves worse than others ”…. What a great disappointment for all those who did everything so that this “war” was lost! For everyone, even for those who don't want to see, there is a “light at the end of the tunnel”, I know that there is a “disappointment” of some fundamentalists who were already preparing the “artillery” for a close attack on the health authorities, is to the Government, but vaccination against this pandemic has started in our country. Of course, we have to admit that there is merit from the Government that was able, and very well, to affirm our position as a small country with the “giants” of the European Union.

It is for all of this that we need to believe that it is through science and not through the selfishness of some who only think of their “alleged political power” that we will overcome our circumstances. We are not facing a dream life, but perhaps today it is the dream of our life, it is that after this we are so in need of the normal and even more concerned with the abnormal, any seemingly harmless detail becomes a repulsive event, is that in all this time we have been intoxicated, by the ridiculous comments by the idea that something has to happen, we are obsessed with the speed at which fear and anxiety has installed itself and the inability to perceive the nature of the virus, has left us even more disoriented. And, in these times that are not ours, nothing worse to solve a crisis, caused by an unknown pathogen, than the list of comments and opinions exactly about what is not known. When mediocre people eagerly seek protagonism, it is clear that fear can reveal obscene people. It is true that the effort to overcome the pandemic does not oblige to silence critical freedom. But it excludes gratuitous aggression, easy insult, gutter politics. To the unbelievers in vaccines and to the politically frustrated, we leave you this message: take care, or, translating into Portuguese vernacular “go but give the dog a bath .....”

We must recognize the great merit of the two women (Minister of Health Marta Themido and General Director of Health Graça Freitas, because being two women I have no doubt that contributed to the overload of malice, bad faith and ordinariness that befell her ) and the rest of the health authorities and health professionals because they have managed this pandemic with great altruism and competence, knowing how to avoid the insurmountable burden of the National Health Service. And yes, here is an example of the importance of good governance of the means and resources available in our country. As Daniel Goleman said: “Realizing what people feel without them saying it is the essence of empathy.”

Every day when we get up and do not give up, as we do not give up on us, it is life telling us that the best is yet to come and that everything will happen at the right time. It won't always happen the way we want, but life will put everything we need in our path. “To worry is to preoccupy yourself with something that is not yet happening. Thus, when the event occurs, we will be without enough and necessary energy to face it, because it was wasted ahead of time. In other words: if our mind is stuck with memories of the past or ideas of the future, we are not alive, but asleep, because life takes place in the present, in the here and now. ”(Thich Nhat Hanh)
