“What worries me is not the cry of the wicked. It is the silence of the good.” (Martin Luther King) These are strange times in which we live, in which perceptions are increasingly distant from reality. If a lie repeated many times has the ambition of becoming a “truth”, fueled by “perverse actors” of a collective tragedy that is beginning to take shape, what can we do? As the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche said: “Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies.” Perhaps the time has come for reflection in which we think that it will be enough to remain faithful to our principles and values, repudiating the false moral superiority of those who construct the illusions of chaos, collapse, and a civilizational downfall? Or is it time to return to the fight to defend the rights that we have hard-won and that are now under fierce attack by legions of lies, intellectual fraud, and the most shameless populism? As Bob Marley (Jamaican singer and songwriter) said: “No one but ourselves can free our minds.” In a world or country where hatred is rampant, where intolerance is raised, where some even resort to physical violence to assert their thoughts, if we continue to consider hate speech and incitement to violence as extreme uses of freedom of expression, protected within the scope of that same freedom, it is a path to chaos. “No one claims that democracy is perfect or flawless. It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the other forms that have been tried from time to time.” (Winston Churchill) Whether we like it or not, people will always tend to judge us according to their own standards and conscience. Some will even try to change us, tell us that “it doesn’t look good for us to be like this”, “that we will be misunderstood”. We should never let the judgment of others stop us from being who we are. We are unique, we were not born to be a copy of anyone! As Nietzsche said: “Don’t worry about what others think; worry about what you think of yourself.” Before you set yourselves up as (false) patriots, how about getting to know a little bit about the history of our Portugal? Knowing what it means to be Portuguese. Knowing our civilizing heritage. Being proud of our openness to other peoples, cultures and religions. As the writer Paulo Coelho said: “Those who don’t know how to listen don’t heed the advice that life gives us.” We must not forget that one day it will be on our doorstep or in our home. That the victims will be us or our own. This has happened so many times. We cannot allow it to happen again. As the philosopher Hegel said when reflecting on his “Philosophy of History”, he wrote that “nations and governments have never learned anything from history and have never acted in accordance with the lessons they could have learned from it.” The example that is happening in our country is there to demonstrate, today, once again, that the best way to repeat past mistakes is simply to not know History.

“O que me preocupa não é o grito dos maus. É o silêncio dos bons.”(Martin Luther King) Estranho tempo este em que vivemos, em que as perceções se afastam cada vez mais das realidades. Se uma mentira repetida muitas vezes tem a ambição de se transformar numa "verdade", alimentada por “perversos actores” de uma tragédia coletiva que se começa a desenhar, o que podemos fazer? Como disse o filosofo alemão Friedrich Nietzsche: "As convicções são inimigas mais perigosas da verdade do que as mentiras." Talvez tenha chegado o momento de reflexão em que pensamos que será suficiente mantermo-nos fiéis aos nossos princípios e aos nossos valores, repudiando a falsa superioridade moral dos que constroem as ilusões do caos, do colapso, duma derrocada civilizacional? Ou será que está na altura de voltarmos ao combate pela defesa dos direitos que conquistámos arduamente e que agora estão sob ataque cerrado das legiões de mentira, de fraude intelectual e do populismo mais descarado? Como disse Bob Marley (cantor e compositor jamaicano):”Ninguém além de nós mesmos pode libertar nossa mente.” Num mundo ou num país onde o ódio grassa, onde a intolerância levanta voz, onde até alguns já recorrem à violência física para afirmar o seu pensamento, ao continuarmos a considerar que os discursos de ódio e os incitamentos à violência são utilizações extremas da liberdade de expressão, resguardadas no âmbito dessa mesma liberdade, é um caminho para o caos.”Ninguém pretende que a democracia seja perfeita ou sem defeito. Tem-se dito que a democracia é a pior forma de governo, salvo todas as demais formas que têm sido experimentadas de tempos em tempos.”(Winston Churchil) Quer queiramos quer não as pessoas tenderão sempre julgar-nos de acordo com os seus próprios padrões e consciência. Alguns até tentarão modificar-nos, dizer-nos que “não nos fica bem sermos assim”, “que vamos ser mal interpretado”. Nunca devemos deixar que o julgamento dos outros nos impeça de ser quem somos. Nós somos único, não nascemos para ser cópia de ninguém! Como disse Nietzsche: “Não se preocupe com o que os outros pensam; preocupe-se com o que pensa de si mesmo.” Antes de se armarem em (falsos) patriotas, que tal conhecerem minimamente a História do nosso Portugal? Saber o que é ser Português. Conhecer a nossa herança civilizacional. Ter orgulho na nossa abertura a outros povos, culturas e religiões. Como disse o escritor Paulo Coelho.“Quem não sabe ouvir não escuta os conselhos que a vida nos dá.” É preciso que não esqueçamos que um dia será à nossa porta ou em nossa casa. Que as vítimas seremos nós ou os nossos. Assim já foi tantas vezes. Não podemos permitir que volte a ser. Como disse o filosofo Hegel ao refletir sobre a sua “Filosofia da História”, escreveu, que “as nações e os governos nunca aprenderam nada com a história e nunca atuaram de acordo com as lições que dela poderiam ter retirado”. O exemplo que acontece no nosso País aí está para o demonstrar, hoje, mais uma vez, que a melhor forma de repetir erros do passado é simplesmente não conhecer a História.
