“Gratitude is the greatest measure of a person’s character.” (Augusto Branco)

“Gratitude is the greatest measure of a person’s character.” (Augusto Branco) Gratitude is a feeling of remembrance, recognition or gratitude for something well received, be it help, a favor or another benefit. Although people are able to see and appreciate the good things that are happening to them, they generally do not cultivate the habit of thanking them. “There is only happiness if we demand nothing from tomorrow and accept from today, with gratitude, whatever it brings us. The magic moment always comes.” (Hermann Hesse) In reality, we easily take these events for granted, not giving them their due value and meaning. It is important to value and be grateful for every little thing or event that is given to us, attracting abundance into our lives. “Great things are not done on impulse, but by joining together a series of small things...I'm not sure of anything, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.” (Vincent van Gogh) It is important to mention that cultivating the habit of gratitude and staying focused on it helps us to focus on what we have, instead of keeping an eye on what we don't have and what we think we lack. We noticed that the more we practice gratitude, the more easily we will feel it naturally and spontaneously. “When we can no longer change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. Everything can be taken from a person except one thing: the freedom to choose your attitude in any circumstance in life. “(Viktor Frankl) In conclusion, gratitude has a beneficial impact on several areas, namely interpersonal relationships, physical and mental health, aggression, empathy, sleep, self-esteem and self-confidence. “ Knowing how to value what you have and the present moment is another way of looking at life. We all have two options: wait for a special day to happen or celebrate each day by making it special.” As she confesses to us, Helena Sacadura Cabral opted for the second choice. And why do we wait? As someone said, gratitude doesn't allow our days to go by blankly. The more we practice it, the more meaning we attribute to what happens to us, intensifying the pleasure of the present. Everyone, but everyone wants to be happy, so we can be grateful. The most interesting path, however, is to start with gratitude, which naturally leads to happiness. “I am very grateful for the adversities that appeared in my life; for they taught me tolerance, sympathy, self-control, perseverance and other qualities that, without these adversities, I would never recognize.” (Napoleon Hill)
