A lie travels around the world before the truth has a chance to dress.” (Winston Churchill) “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”, is probably the most popular phrase from the book “The Triumph of Pigs”, by George Orwell. However, it is already an evolution of the initial commandment that, purely and simply, said that “all animals are equal”. Orwell, almost eight decades later, seems to still be right: “we are all the same, but some are more equal than others…” This all comes from the current events in the so-called “North Atlantic communication axis” in which we are experiencing an unprecedented (in our day to day) information war. But in Europe we have never seen this type of information war, at least of its current magnitude and it is characterized by the almost total erosion between facts and manipulation of emotions and perceptions, between hypotheses or conjectures and unassailable truths. We all have the perception that the information war aims to continue the war of arms, as long as it suits those who promote it. Information warfare is always based on a mixture of selective truths, half-truths and pure and hard lies (the so-called false flags) organized in order to justify the military action of those who promote it. I am sure that at the moment an information war is under way on both the Russian and the American/Ukrainian sides, even though, due to the censorship imposed on us, we know less about what is happening on the Russian side. Sooner or later the truth will come out. The tragedy is that it will always come too late. In the specific case of the war in Ukraine, the manipulation aims to prevent public opinion and political decision-makers from thinking and deciding without excessive stress on the only measure that is now required: the search for a lasting peace in Ukraine and in the region in order to end to the suffering of the Ukrainian people, a people who, in these days, share the tragic fate of the Palestinian, Serb, Yemeni, Syrian, Sahrawi and Afghan peoples, despite the deepest silence on the latter. “More than ideas, it is interests that separate people.” (Charles Tocqueville) It is still a matter for reflection, for all those who “want to think” that when armed conflicts are in Africa or the Middle East, then European leaders are the first to call for the cessation of hostilities and the urgency of peace negotiations. . No entanto é já uma evolução do mandamento inicial que, pura e simplesmente, rezava que “todos os animais são iguais”. Orwell, quase oito décadas depois, parece continuar a ter razão: “somos todos iguais, mas uns somos mais iguais que outros…” Isto tudo vem a propósito dos actuais acontecimentos no chamado “eixo comunicacional do Atlântico Norte” em que vivemos uma guerra de informação (no nosso dia a dia) sem precedentes. Mas na Europa nunca tinhamos assistido a este tipo de guerra de informação, pelo menos com a magnitude actual e caracteriza-se pela erosão quase total entre factos e manipulação das emoções e percepções, entre hipóteses ou conjecturas e verdades inatacáveis. Todos nós temos a percepção que a guerra da informação tem por objectivo continuar a guerra das armas, enquanto tal convier a quem a promove. A guerra de informação assenta sempre numa mistura de verdades selectivas, meias verdades e mentiras puras e duras (as chamadas false flags) organizada de modo a justificar a acção militar de quem a promove. Estou certo de que neste momento está em curso uma guerra de informação tanto do lado russo como do lado norte-americano/ucraniano, ainda que, devido à censura que nos foi imposta, saibamos menos sobre o que se passa no lado russo. Mais tarde ou mais cedo a verdade virá ao de cima. A tragédia é que virá sempre demasiado tarde. No caso concreto da guerra da Ucrânia, a manipulação visa impedir a opinião pública e os decisores políticos de pensarem e decidirem sem excessivo stress na única medida que agora se impõe: a busca de uma paz duradoura na Ucrânia e na região de modo a pôr fim ao sofrimento do povo ucraniano, um povo que nestes dias partilha a trágica sorte dos povos palestiniano, servio, iemenita, sírio, sarauí e afegão, ainda que sobre estes últimos pese o mais profundo silêncio. “Mais que as ideias, são os interesses que separam as pessoas.“(Charles Tocqueville) Não deixa de ser matéria para reflexão, para todos os que “queiram pensar” de que quando os conflitos armados são em África ou no Médio Oriente, logo os líderes europeus são os primeiros a pedir o cessar das hostilidades e a urgência das negociações de paz. Por que é quando a guerra é na Europa, os tambores da guerra tocam incessantemente e nenhum líder, para além da tentativa muito circunscrita de Macron (França) apela a que se calem, e a voz da paz se ouça? In these times we live in a world of definitions, which tries to direct our way of thinking and where to belong, but the more we define ourselves and the environment, the more we create limits to our own way of living. As Friedrich Nietzsche said: “Fanaticism is the only form of will that can be instilled in the weak and timid.” The reality is that the war is there. Fierce. Wild. With echoes of violence that have disappeared (or almost…) from Europe for many decades. We must all be fully aware that whoever controls social networks (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and the press (newspapers and television) also controls us..(or intends to control). This is not a conspiracy theory, these are facts that we should be aware of. And here, reality trumps imagination. Our activities, and our lack of activity, are recorded, studied and the conclusions are used. We are transparent as we navigate, and interact, in the digital world, and we leave more information about ourselves than what we can think of, certainly more than we would like to leave, all this and from the start, because we feel free. The reality is that the freer we feel, without “being”, a curious irony, in the “pretense” management of the choices we make when we are online, the more information we leave about ourselves.“We can never be sure that the opinion we try suffocating is false; and if we had, smothering it would still be an evil.” (John Stuart Mill). The awareness, or illusion, that there we are entirely free in what we do or say is the reason for this prison of ours in which we are “limited” at this time. SOU CONTRA O FANATISMO. SINTO-ME SOFUCADO!!! Nestes tempos vivemos num mundo de definições, que tenta direcionar nossa forma de pensar e aonde pertencer, mas quanto mais definimos a nós e ao meio ambiente, mais criamos limites à nossa própria maneira de viver. Como disse Friedrich Nietzsche: “O fanatismo é a única forma de vontade que pode ser incutida nos fracos e nos tímidos.” A realidade é que a guerra está aí. Feroz. Selvagem. Com ecos de violência há muitas décadas desaparecidos (ou quase…) da Europa. Todos nós devemos ter plena consciência de que quem controla as redes sociais ( Facebook, instagram, Twitter, etc etc) e a imprensa (jornais e televisões) também nos controla a nós..( ou pretende controlar). Isto não é uma teoria da conspiração, são factos dos quais devemos de ter conhecimento público. E, aqui, a realidade supera a imaginação. As nossas atividades, e as nossas faltas de atividade, são registadas, estudadas e as conclusões são usadas. Somos transparentes enquanto navegamos, e interagimos, no mundo digital, e deixamos mais informação sobre nós mesmos do que aquela que nos passa pela cabeça, certamente mais do que aquela que quereríamos deixar, tudo isto e desde logo, porque nos sentimos livres. A realidade é que quanto mais livres nos sentimos, sem o “sermos”, curiosa ironia, na “pretensa” gestão das escolhas que fazemos quando estamos online, mais informações deixamos sobre nós mesmos.“Nunca podemos ter certeza de que a opinião que tentamos sufocar é falsa; e se tivéssemos, sufocá-la continuaria sendo um mal.”(John Stuart Mill). A consciência, ou ilusão, de que ali somos inteiramente livres no que fazemos ou dizemos é o motivo deste nosso cárcere no qual somos “limitados” neste tempo. Quando assim agimos como se não estivéssemos a ser observados, mas estamos, revelamos quem somos e a nossa própria intimidade, nos gostos e pensamentos. “Pois é aqui que chegámos, é aqui que estamos, a propósito da guerra na Ucrânia, estamos a viver: num clima de intimidação concertada sobre o pensamento como nunca antes vimos ou sentimos . Há momentos na sociedade em que pensar se torna particularmente difícil. Pensar no atual contexto é submeter ponto por ponto esta narrativa ao escrutínio da razão e da reflexão. Implica muitos riscos, nomeadamente o de ser considerado traidor, talvez ao serviço do inimigo. Certo destes riscos (aliás, já concretizados), atrevo-me a pensar. Como disse Buda:” Somos o que pensamos. Tudo o que somos surge com nossos pensamentos. Com nossos pensamentos, fazemos o nosso mundo.” Podemos concluir que afinal temos aprendido muito pouco. Continuamos a sobrepor as emoções à razão, e a ver o mundo a preto e branco. As nossas mentes continuam a ser moldadas de modo a aceitarmos visões simplicistas de realidades complexas. Perceções maniqueístas dão-nos mais conforto por confirmarem os nossos preconceitos e as nossas “certezas”. Bons e imaculados de um lado, maus e intragáveis do outro. Os bons nunca cometeriam crimes de guerra ou contra a humanidade, apenas porque são bons.
