“The world of reality has its limits. The world of imagination has no borders. ” (Jean-Jacques Rousseau)
A friend of mine used to tell me that "we can never confuse the" right to freedom of expression "as a synonym for" anything goes "because when anything goes, it means digging a gap so that our freedom does not exist." Whoever keeps memories does not live in the past, makes the past a present and future time. To look at the roots of time is to understand better what is and what will come, with wisdom, with affection, and never its opposite. One of the difficulties we have is that we know very little about reality, we don't know what is coming and we don't know how long it will last. As Albert Einstein said: “There is one thing that a long existence has taught me: all of our science, compared to reality, is primitive and innocent; and therefore it is the most valuable thing we have. ”
In these times when we live in dangerous days, this warned advice came to mind, which is not only at stake in the effectiveness of fighting the pandemic, but also the model of social relations with each other and with the law. Impatience, suffering, the hardships of crises have always been opportunities for ruptures and the prolongation of confinement, coupled with the "uncertainty of the moment", is being one of the "causes of anxiety in people". We have to accept that we are more nervous, sadder at times, more irritable, more tense and that this is normal. “To make reality bearable, we all have to cultivate certain small insanities within us. If dreaming a little is dangerous, the solution is not to dream less but to dream more. ”(Marcel Proust)
The so-called “uncontrolled pandemic” that has an echo in the constant disinformation that the press, in particular, the television echo (which, fortunately, seems to have its days numbered), the cases of vaccines taken abusively, of course there were failures, the opportunism of the opposition , which never presents alternatives, the exaggerations of the press and, above all, tiredness start to contaminate confidence, promote nihilism and instigate extreme behaviors, I remember the observation of HL Mencken: “For every complex problem, there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong ”.
We have to admit that we are still a long way from winning this battle, even further from winning the war, and that is why it is not yet time to drop our arms, relaxing would be the worst symptom at this moment. Whoever keeps memories looks at the events and sees in them an extended thread, which comes from so far and can project itself so far. Citizens must remain at home and comply with telework wherever possible. This regime is mandatory, even if, when we look at the level of traffic on certain roads, it seems only optional. The reality that surrounds us has been so extreme in recent times that satire has become almost impossible. Everything that we could imagine really happens. Let us not be discouraged, let there be positive thoughts. But there is above all conscious individual and collective action, so that things do not go from bad to good performance, but to serve citizens. Whoever keeps memories inhabits the world with knowledge made from others, from the deep land, from the community, and all this passes on to us, it is provided to us, giving us with dedication this immense world made of life. In reality, perhaps none of our natural passions are as difficult to subdue as pride. Disguise him, fight him, take him down, choke him, humiliate him as much as you wish, and he is still alive, and he will appear from time to time and show himself. ”(Benjamin Franklin)
