WE HAVE MEMORY!!! But being quiet doesn't mean being indifferent! There are moments in life when we need to learn to be silent. Not because we have nothing to say, but because we realize that not everything deserves an answer, an explanation, or a discussion. Those who truly know us don't need explanations; those who have decided not to understand us will hardly be convinced by them. It's about knowing how to listen before speaking, observing before judging, and thinking before reacting. "There are days when I don't want to say anything! I just want the right to remain silent without having to say why I feel this way." (Father Fábio de Melo) Learning to be quiet is also learning to respect. Respecting the other person's space, their pain, their choices, and even their silences. We don't always need to advise, correct, or show that we are right. Over time, we learn that answering everything is tiring, explaining everything is unnecessary, and discussing everything is a way to waste time and peace in our spirit. (Bob Marley) The Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) had a fund from public employee deductions, money reserved to pay pensions for its retired workers. In 2004, under the government of Durão Barroso, the State transferred approximately 2.4 billion euros from this fund, and in return, the Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) assumed the responsibility of paying these pensions. This money was not placed in a fund to pay these pensions, nor was it used to strengthen Social Security; it entered the public accounts and was used to reduce the State Budget deficit as an extraordinary revenue. In other words, the State received money from employee deductions at that time and used it to solve a problem in its accounts, but it was left with the obligation to allocate it in the budget to pay those pensions for many years. When the time comes to pay these pensions, this money is supposed to come from the State Budget and not from Social Security. TEMOS MEMÓRIA!!! Mas estar calado não significa ser indiferente! Há momentos na vida em que precisamos de aprender a estar calados. Não porque não tenhamos nada para dizer, mas porque percebemos que nem tudo merece uma resposta, uma explicação ou uma discussão. Quem nos conhece verdadeiramente não precisa de explicações; quem decidiu não nos compreender, dificilmente será convencido por elas. É saber ouvir antes de falar, observar antes de julgar e pensar antes de reagir. “Tenho dias que não quero dizer nada! Quero apenas o direito de ficar calado sem ter que dizer o porquê de estar assim.”(Padre Fábio de Melo) Aprender a estar calado é também aprender a respeitar. Respeitar o espaço do outro, as suas dores, as suas escolhas e até os seus silêncios. Nem sempre precisamos de aconselhar, corrigir ou mostrar que temos razão. Com o tempo, aprendemos que responder a tudo é cansativo, explicar tudo é desnecessário e discutir tudo é uma forma de perder tempo e a paz no nosso espirito. “Há quem diga que quando o Sol brilha é para todos, mas para algumas pessoas no mundo ele nunca brilha.”(Bob Marley) A Caixa Geral de Depósitos tinha um fundo dos descontos dos funcionários públicos, de dinheiro reservado para pagar pensões dos seus trabalhadores pensionistas. Quanto muito significa saber quando falar e, sobretudo, quando não falar. Porque há silêncios que são cobardia, mas há outros que são sabedoria. Aprender a estar calado é aprender a escutar o mundo, os outros e, principalmente, a nós próprios. Aprender a estar calado é, talvez, uma das maiores conquistas da maturidade: não sentir necessidade de responder a tudo o que nos incomoda.
