Fear, the unknown, uncertainty and survival.

Today it came to my mind that there are still more than 400 thousand Portuguese people who know from experience what fear, the survival instinct, the unknown and the uncertainty of tomorrow are. If we are told that we have to be patient, but at the same time sympathetic and responsible, the time has come to pass on to our children, grandchildren and all our friends this experience, which knocked on our door in certain moment of our life and how we survived a war, where “young people like us did the work of adults… and where we were one for all and all for one!”
As popular wisdom says: "Fear erodes and destroys!" And the human being, as something imperfect that he is and always will be, is naturally a being frightened and full of uncertainty when faced with the unknown. But it is not a shame to be afraid! We can and must learn to live with all this, to fight and to overcome, but we will never get rid of everything that leaves us with doubts, suspicions and fears.
Let's be very clear, it is socially irresponsible - absurd negligence - to say and think “it won't affect me”, “I won't change my life because of this” or “I'm not part of high-risk groups, so I'm good". It is everyone's responsibility to raise our voices when we see this type of speech and correct it immediately.
We are nostalgic, unsettled ... The labels are many, but how do we behave today? What about the mood of the Portuguese? Are we even more pessimistic? Annoying or cautious? And what more can be said about the mood of the Portuguese, going beyond the labels of inveterate nostalgic, hospitable but sullen, people trapped by nostalgia for fado? Increasingly accelerated lives, stress, burnout, connected, digital ... What characterizes the collective behavior of the Portuguese today will not be much different from what happens throughout the Western world. If these are unlikely to be exclusive Portuguese brands, there is some irony: being unkempt, one of the Portuguese brand images, may not be a good help in the face of “strange” times “We really are unkempt. But doing things, in some ways, discourages people from thinking about what they can do to change ”. We are shaped by others. We are completely dependent on technological means. Respect gave way to cynicism. The balance between panic and inertia is difficult to get right, as we have never experienced a situation like this in the contemporary era. We need to be willing to radically change our ways of life - and perhaps even the way we think about the society in which we live. And the reason, probably, is not to protect yourself, but to help society as a whole and the most fragile and exposed people. It is time to think of others in fact.
Stay at home, don’t hoard consumer goods, follow the technical instructions issued by health agencies, contact them but don’t go in person, think about your family and the others who also have a family to better take care of others, and think that no one needs either of dead heroes.
I want to make it very clear that the daydreams of irresponsibility apply to those who stroll along beaches, terraces, discos or shopping centers, in flocks of sparrows on the loose, on the basis of instinct, without the ability to think like human beings.
And those who consider people over 60 years old or patients with other chronic diseases (co-morbidities) to be disposable, is an objectionable attitude that reminds Nazism, in absolute contempt for life, an attitude that should deserve ours. discontent, our revolt, our contempt, in praise of life and humanism.
We will have to reflect on the day after the virus was defeated… .we just don't know, nor does anyone know when that day comes !!! only state powers are able to impose a state of exception. We have to accept it because there are absolutely no alternatives. That is why measures are called for to stop abuses - that is, more social control. So let us stop the witch hunt, ask whose fault it is or why all this happened, and ask first what we can learn from this. I think we all have a lot to think about and do. We started today because tomorrow may be late! Sometimes we say that “we have to pay a price”… .maybe it is correct!
